Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on the 26th of March in 1991. She is an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. On October 21, 2016 she debuted Pho, her first EP under the Dreamville Records label. It was at this point that she began to gain notoriety. Shea Butter Baby released her debut studio album on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox first posted her music on the internet in 2012. She released her debut album Ariography and debut mixtape in 2013 with five Finger Discount. The singer continued uploading her tracks online through 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. In July of 2015, she appeared on Omen's album Elephant Eyes with the track Sweat it Out. J. Cole was interested in her talents and was keen to collaborate together with Rihanna. Her announcement to be signed by Dreamville Records was made on the 8th of December. The singer appeared on the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II on the track Backseat with Cozz. In October 21st, 2016 her debut EP was released, titled Pho. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change track, and performed on her own tour, the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. The year 2018 saw Ari Lennox guested on two tracks by EarthGang On Nothing but the Best, and Bas On Icarus. Ari Lennox, on the 16th of July 2018 was the first artist to release her single "Whipped Cream" from Shea Butter Baby. A music video for it came out on the 5th. On November 9 the singer released two new singles, 40 Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. On November 13 she then dropped two singles titled No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby. Shea Butter Baby later made an appearance in the Creed II album soundtrack alongside Cole. She released this single as a way to celebrate her debut album titled Creed II on 26 February 2019. A music video debuted on 20 February 2019 to accompany the track. Within the first period of a week, the video had more than 3 million views. In December 2018 she performed on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour that featured 6LACK.
